5 Riveting Super Bowl XLVIII Performers Who Are Not Bruno Mars

The NFL tapped Bruno Mars as headliner for the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show back in September, and since then, officials have quietly added a slew of enthralling performers to complement his big act throughout show day on Sunday.
Though much Super Bowl hype will surround Bruno Mars — and rightfully so as he continues to rack up impressive accolades such as being named Billboard's 2013 Artist of the Year and winning a Grammy Award for Best Pop Album for Unorthodox Jukebox — viewers of Super Bowl festivities on Feb. 2 will also see these other five riveting entertainers.

Fox will broadcast the big game between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, with the kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET, though all of these entertainers except for the halftime crew will perform before kickoff, as early as 4 p.m. for the televised NFL Tailgate Party.
Giving 18-time Grammy nominee Bruno Mars a major assist onstage at the halftime show (a.k.a. the most-watched musical event every year) will be the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The rock band — consisting of singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer, Chad Smith and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer — was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 after selling more than 60 million albums and winning six Grammys over three decades together. The Chili Peppers' last album, I'm With You came out in 2011.
Last year, more than 110.5 million viewers in the U.S. watched Beyonce's electrifying halftime show, which was also broadcast worldwide.
Soprano Renée Fleming will perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" immediately before kickoff with help from the New Jersey Symphony. The national anthem role is traditionally reserved for a pop star, so the opera world is ecstatic about Fleming performing it this year.
Last year, Alicia Keys played piano while singing the national anthem, which some Twitter users criticized for running long. Keys was the first artist to use a piano during a Super Bowl national anthem performance since Billy Joel in 2007. Kelly Clarkson sang the song in 2012, a year after Christina Aguilera flubbed the song's lyrics at the previous Super Bowl (watch below). Other past performers include Whitney Houston, Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Neil Diamond, Diana Ross, Jewel, Harry Connick Jr., the Dixie Chicks and Cher.
Actress Amber Zion will perform sign language alongside Fleming this year.
Fresh off marrying nearly three dozen couples during an emotional musical performance at Sunday's Grammys, New Jersey native Queen Latifah will sing "America The Beautiful" during televised pre-game festivities at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
Queen Latifah previously performed the song at the Super Bowl in 2010. Past Super Bowl performers of "America The Beautiful" include Jennifer Hudson, Ray Charles, Mary J. Blige, Marc Anthony, Alicia Keys, Faith Hill, Lea Michelle, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert.

The Band Perry performs at the 2013 CMA Music Festival on June 9, 2013, in Nashville, Tenn.
American Idol season 11 winner Phillip Phillips and country trio The Band Perry will perform during the televised NFL Tailgate Party, which begins at 4 p.m. ET on Fox.
Phillips has scored hits with "Home" and "Gone, Gone, Gone," while The Band Perry is most known for singles such as "If I Die Young" and "DONE." At some point, the Broadway casts of Jersey Boys and Rock of Ages will also make a musical appearance.
