Out of the top 25, we've pulled the top 10 tech companies with the best intern wages. Familiar names, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, made the list, but weren't able to snag the top spot.
That honor goes to Palantir Technologies, a computer software company based in San Francisco. Interns can net thousands of dollars a month, and probably do a lot more than get coffee and make copies.
The computer software-building company has the number one highest paying internships overall.
“Work is motivated by a real mission. Very few people are there just for money,” an anonymous Palantir support engineer intern in Palo Alto, Calif., said.
VMWare is a cloud and virtualization software company, and ranked second on the list. The highest paying internship there is a monthly rate of $6,966.
“Compensation is up to the mark and [the] company takes care of good bonuses and other perks,” a VMWare graduate intern in Palo Alto said.
Social media giant Twitter treats its best paid interns to $6,791 a month.
“You will ship code used in production, you can have a say in virtually all company decisions, you will be generously compensated [and] you will learn a ton,” a Twitter software engineering intern in New York said.
Professional connection site LinkedIn doles out $6,230 a month. An anonymous intern said it also offered "excellent benefits."
Facebook, the social media behemoth, really likes its interns. Up-and-comers can make up to $6,213.
“The benefits and pay are obviously great, and since it's a well-known company it's a good place to start if you're looking to get recognized at other tech companies and startups,” a Facebook software engineering intern in Palo Alto said.
One of the most famous computer software companies in the world, Microsoft interns net $6,138 monthly.
“The research internship program is really well-organized. There're housing, car rental and relocation subsidies, as well as internship only events,” a Microsoft research intern in Redmond, Wash., said.
Interns who work for the popular online shop eBay, where users can buy or sell goods, can walk away with $6,126 per month. An intern in San Jose called it the “best place to start your career."
The popular search engine landed in ninth place on the overall top 25 list, but jumps to eighth on this one. Interns can nab $5,969 per month. An anonymous software engineer intern living in New York City said the company also "paid for the accommodation during the whole internship."
Apple, the hub of electronic creation and design, placed 10th on the top 25 list, but bumped up one spot for this list. The company sets interns up with $5,273 per month.
“In addition to providing free housing, which was at worst a 15-minute drive from work, or a $1,000 housing stipend, some teams provide free lunches and dinners to employees, and you're also eligible for all the other employee benefits, like health insurance, fitness center membership [and] product discounts,” an Apple software engineering intern in Cupertino, Calif., said.
Amazon, the popular ecommerce company, was actually in the 11th spot, but its $5,631 monthly offering popped it into the top 10 tech internships. An anonymous intern in Seattle, Wash., said the 20-year-old company had a "young and startup feel, [and a] great campus.”
