SoCal Earthquake Didn't Damage Much, But 'Noah' Showings Were Extra Freaky

Looking for a wild Friday night at the movies in Los Angeles? Start with an apocalyptic blockbuster on its opening weekend, add a 5.1 magnitude earthquake just after 9 p.m.

Of the millions of Angelinos who rode out the temblor Friday night — the second strong one in two weeks — thousands did so from a seat at their local cinema. The quake jolted much of SoCal from its epicenter near La Habra, an inland community about 30 miles south and east of downtown L.A., causing about 3,000 people to lose power, scattered water- and gas-main breaks, and a nasty mess for store owners who had their work cut out for them Saturday morning.

Only minor injuries were reported, including a rockslide in Carbon Canyon that overturned a car:

More than 30 aftershocks were recorded in the area throughout the night. But moviegoers got the biggest shock, in the form of a serious 4D experience.
