Tag  Question  ৯ম শ্রেণীর ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের একটি নতুন বিষয় । একটু মনোযোগসহকারে বুঝে, পড়লে এটি খুব সহজেই আয়ত্ত করতে পারবে। Tag  Question   Tag অর্থ ‘গাথা ’ বা ‘জুড়ে দেওয়া ’। কথোপকথনের সময়sentence এর শেষে শ্রোতার স্বীকৃতি বা  সমর্থন চেয়ে যে একটি  Question জুড়ে দেওয়া হয় তাকে Tag Question বলে। অন্যভাবে বলা যায়, কোনো বক্তব্যকে  confirm করার জন্য ঐ বক্তব্যের সঙ্গে যে প্রশ্ন গেথে দেওয়া হয় তাকে Tag Questions বলে।

   (Tag Questions are short additions to sentences, asking for agreement or confirmation.).  Tag Question এর মাধ্যমে Subject সাধারণত; তার ধারণাকৃত কোনো বিষয়ের সত্যতা যাচাই করেন অর্থাৎ Tag Question এর মাধ্যমে প্রশ্নকর্তা তার শ্রোতার কাছ থেকে একটি উত্তর প্রত্যাশা করেন। ELEMENTARY DISCUSSION :Tag Questions এর সাধারণ নিয়মa. প্রদত্ত বাক্য কোন Tense এ আছে তা প্রথমে বুঝতে হবে। b. প্রদত্ত বাক্য + কমা (,) + Tag Question + Pronoun+ ?c. প্রদত্ত বাক্য Affirmative হলে  Tag Question Negative  হয় এবং প্রদত্ত বাক্য Negative হলে  Tag Question Affirmative  হয় । d. প্রদত্ত বাক্যে Auxiliary Verb থাকলে  Tag এ শুধু সেই Verb টিই বসে। Main Verbটি বসে না।

e. প্রদত্ত বাক্যে শুধুমাত্র Main Verb থাকলে Tag এ do/does/did বসিয়ে প্রশ্ন করতে হয় । f. প্রদত্ত বাক্যে  Subject Noun হলে Tag এ শুধুমাত্র Pronoun হবে । e.  Tag এ  Negative এর short form  হবে। g. প্রদত্ত বাক্যে neither no/ none/no one/nobody/ nothing/ never/scarcely/ barely/hardly/hardly ever/ seldom ইত্যাদি থাকলে বাক্যটি Negative ধরে নিতে হয়। তাই Tag এ  not  বসে না।

Tag Questions এর Logical নিয়ম01. একটি Tag Questions এর দুটি অংশ থাকে। একটি অংশ Affirmative এবং অপর অংশটি Negative. প্রথম অংশটি Affirmative হলে দ্বিতীয় অংশটি Negative হবে আবার প্রথম অংশটি Negative হলে দ্বিতীয় অংশটি Affirmative হবে। e.g. He is a student, isn’t he? The man is not honest, is he?  02:  Tag Question এর Subject অবশ্যই Pronoun হবে। e.g. Dipika came  from/to India. didn’t she?.03. বাক্যে শুধুমাত্র Principal Verb  থাকলে (Simple Present & Simple Past) Tense অনুযায়ী do/ does /did ব্যবহৃত হবে। Sahrukh started a business, didn’t he?   The house looks nice, doesn’t it? I play cricket, don’t l?04. I am থাকলে Question অংশে aren’t I হবে।

কিন্তু I am not থাকলে am I হবে। e.g. I am happy, aren’t I?I am not afraid, am  I?05. Question অংশে (Auxiliary verb + not) এর  Short from (Auxiliary verb + n’t) বসাতে হবে। অর্থাৎ প্রদত্ত Auxiliary Verbটি লিখে তার সঙ্গে n’t যোগ করতে হবে। is/ are/ was/ were/ have/ has/ had/ do/ does/ did/ Modals   ব্যতিক্রম:  Am not =aren’t              cannot =can’t        Will not= won’tshall not = shan’t   OR, 05. ইংরেজিতে ব্যবহৃত word সমূহের contracted/ contraction/ short form দেওয়া হলো:

He is working hard these days, isn’t he?     They have already completed this, haven’t theyYou are not happy at all, are you?         They were watching TV, weren’t they?        I had done my home work, hadn’t I?                  You should study hard, shouldn’t you  I am innocent, aren’t I?     I can play badminton well, can’t l?    I shall go to market, shan’t  l?    I cannot play golf, cant l?     They will do the work, won’t they?     We  won’t /will not buy this flat, will we?     EXCLUSIVE RULES:Rule 1: Everyone, everybody, someone, somebody, anyone, anybody, no, one, nobody, none, each কোন বাক্যের Subject  হলে এটি ব্যক্তিকে নির্দেশ করে এবং এক্ষেত্রে Tag Question এর Subject  হবে they. Everybody saw you, didn’t they?  Someone will go there, won’t they?Nobody has seen him, have they?         Everyone is waiting, aren’t they? Nobody phoned, did they?                  None  can help you, can they ?None is President, are they?Note: No/Every + Noun এর ক্ষেত্রে male/female বুঝতে পারলে সে অনুযায়ী he/she  বসবে। তবে male/female বুঝতে না পারলে they বসবে।

Every mother loves her child, doesn’t she ?Every teacher is qualified, aren’t they ?Rule 2: everything, something, anything, nothing কোন বাক্যের Subject হলে উহা বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে এবং এক্ষেত্রে Tag Question এর Subject  হবে it.Nothing was done, was it?                  Everything is ready, isn’t it?Nothing has been done, has it?             Everything was stolen, wasn’t it?   Nothing is certain, is it?  Something is better than nothing, isn’t it ?Rule 3: all of us, some of us, most of us, everyone of us, none of us কোন বাক্যের Subject হলে Tag Question এর Subject হবে We.We  are none of us getting any younger, are we ?Some of us can sing  well, can’t we ?All of us have worked hard, haven’t we?All of us attended the meeting, didn’t we ?[চলবে]
