Think about a school ,which was established only 3 years ago and the students of its first batch took the first place in merit list of the matriculation examination. Otherwise ,a school which students acquired places from first to consecutive seventeen in merit list of the S.S.C examination in a single year. It all began 50 years ago. A school was born ,but it was not a regular school. Over the years from its inception /beginning since 1961; it has raised echelon of legends in every arena and showed it’s excellence . We talked much about the legacy of Government Laboratory High School. Recently the school celebrated its glorious 50 years of pride. It’s the only school in Bangladesh that always have its students on the S.S.C merit list at top position, even in the time of Grading system in every year. Moreover it raised a generation called the Laboratorian, who are brilliantly attributing different sectors i.e; in the field of music Bass Baba suman(LAB90),in the field of sports like grand master Ziaur Rahman(Lab95),or inventing the genome sequence of jute……..and many more.At the begining Government Laboratory High school was founded under the Dhaka Teachers training College as a teaching practice institute. The great Khan Mohamammad Salek ,who was honored as best teacher by Ekushey Podok in 1992,was the founding head master of the school. For the vision and charismatic personality of Mr.Salek the school is gradually become a harborage of knowledge of our pride.The moto of the school was selected from the great poet Gatte’s famous stanza “light more light”. This moral has been lead us to the success of our lives from the childhood. That’s why some call us champs said by the That’s why on the eve of the celebrating the golden jubilee every students of this school feeling the same one sense “proud to be a Laboratorians”. The program was scheduled for two day long. On the first day at 23rd December the celebration was observed on beloved school playground. On that very day it was dense fog over the field and the temperature was 14degree celcious. But the spirit and excitement of the die heart students was so magnificent that overcome all the hurdles, made the program a real rendezvous. The old laboratory student association arranged variation of segments i.e; demo assembly, raffle draw, remembrance session, sports competition, fire spinning, concerts of the laboratorian bands and many more. But the most nostalgic part was the launching session of the song “ALO ARO ALO” by bass baba suman(LAB90). Many laboratorians were shedding their tear of joy recalling their those days of hangouts in school. the celebration become so intensify that a student of (LAB’11) come to the program though he had a scheduled of surgery that day. It’s definitely a remarkable affectionate to a school by its student for all. In a sense enthusiasm of the ebullient student had no limit that very day. On the 24th December the program was arranged on BICC. On that day the most funny segment was the fun game sessions with the spouse. Also , we gratifying as heroes among the ex-students for their immense contribution to the nation by their works with prolific idea with integrity. Sana via (LAB93) share an untold history of laboratorians heroism during the liberation war on 1971. In 1971 the student of class 10 named sabuj was fighting against the enemy on sector number two. One day, when the whole troops were targeted by an ambush of the enemy line, sabuj alone was advancing to the enemy line for covering the rest of the member of the troops. Meanwhile when he was instructed to come back he said” I came here to fight, not for cutting grass.”After a few moments he was died by the firing of the enemy troops. But only for heroic support of sabuj the lives of others was saved that day. That’s why the laboratorians on the battle field called as champs. Such heroic tales make us proud being a laboratorian. Music played a big part of laboratorians upbringing . with that in mind , the germ of the idea for having an entire album by the laboratorian musician was born. This is the first time , where a whole music album has been brought out bty the school alumni with songs by school bands. Government Laboratory High School is not an ordinary institution.Many of us already completed our post graduation level many years ago. but as a light house it always guides us and remains an integral part of everyone’s lives. For these facts we come back again not only to our school but also coming back to life.
