Oracle Delivers Complete Refresh of SPARC Enterprise Server Product Line and Unveils SPARC Solaris-based Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud T3-1B

Demonstrating its commitment to the SPARC platform, Oracle has expanded the SPARC platform by announcing a SPARC Solaris-based Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud T3-1B engineered system and a complete refresh of the SPARC server product line. Highlighting the unrivaled performance of its SPARC servers, Oracle announced world record OLTP database performance on a TPC-C benchmark with the Oracle Database 11g running on Oracle’s SPARC Supercluster with SPARC T3-4 servers. Oracle’s configuration beats IBM Power 780 server cluster with POWER7 processors and IBM DB2 9.7 database by nearly 3 times and has 26 percent better price/performance(1). Oracle also unveiled the SPARC Supercluster based on SPARC T3 servers. Built using the same innovations that delivered the OLTP performance demonstrated in the TPC-C benchmark, it includes the latest hardware and software from Oracle including, SPARC T3 servers, built-in cryptographic accelerators, Oracle’s Sun FlashFire storage, InfiniBand networking and Oracle’s Sun ZFS Storage Appliance products. Additionally, Oracle introduced the SPARC Solaris-based Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud T3-1B, an integrated hardware and software system tested and tuned by Oracle to run Java and non-Java applications with extreme performance. This engineered system takes advantage of the SPARC T3 system’s scalability, security and integrated chip features. By updating its SPARC T-Series and Sun SPARC Enterprise M-Series product lines, Oracle is accelerating delivery on key milestones outlined in its five-year roadmap for SPARC Solaris-based systems. These milestones include: Availability of the complete family of high-performance SPARC T3 systems with the industry’s first 16-core SPARC T3 server processor. Unveiled at Oracle OpenWorld 2010, the systems feature massively scalable, highly integrated “systems on a chip” design with embedded security, networking, and accelerated I/O. Additionally, the next-generation SPARC T4 processors are already running in Oracle’s development labs. Expansion of the long-standing partnership with Fujitsu and joint announcement of enhanced Sun SPARC Enterprise M-Series servers with a new SPARC processor, delivering maximum investment protection, expandability and increased performance. Announcement of Oracle Solaris 11 Express in November; a fully-supported production release delivering immediate access to mission-critical features, including un-matched levels of reliability and availability with predictive self-healing and advanced software management features that significantly reduce planned and unplanned downtime. The SPARC T-Series and Sun SPARC Enterprise M-Series are optimized and integrated with Oracle Solaris for extreme reliability and scalability and increased performance for running enterprise applications – the highest levels are achieved when using Oracle VM for SPARC, Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Applications. To enhance customer success, Oracle launched a marketing campaign to showcase how to optimize datacenter resources and efficiency, as well as improve application performance and scale. The cornerstone of this campaign is the Next-Generation Data Center road show, consisting of nearly 100 events in more than 35 countries from July through December. Additional resources and content can be found on the Optimized Datacenter Virtual Briefing Center. Oracle now offers the industry’s most reliable, scalable and secure solutions, integrated from application-to-disk, for mission-critical computing and cloud computing. “Oracle is accelerating delivery on our five-year SPARC roadmap with continued product innovation,” said John Fowler, Oracle Executive Vice President, Systems, Oracle. “With the enhanced SPARC Enterprise product family, coupled with Solaris 11 Express and the new SPARC Solaris-based Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud T3-1B, Oracle is again raising the bar to deliver the industry’s most reliable, scalable and secure solutions for mission-critical computing.”
