TIFA ( A Death contract )

Ensure market for GMO (genetically Modified Organism) foods: TIFA is first step to GMO foods. A GMO is an organism whose material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Bangladesh has 18 cores people and majority are always in deprived of foods. This opportunity can be taken by USA under TIFA to sale low priced GMO foods. As TIFA obliterate the right of non-tariff barriers, Bangladesh will not able to ban GMO foods. GMO foods will be spreading in markets of Bangladesh. People will rush to buy it as it is low priced. This ultimately leads people having defective limbs. It will destruct our local foods. Total eco systems will fall down. In Japan, Consumers Unions of Japan are opposed to GMO foods. They also claim that truly independent research in these areas is systematically blocked by the GM corporations which own the GM seeds and reference materials. Scientist Árpád Pusztai, who was considered a world expert on plant lectins. He had found that rats fed potatoes genetically modified to contain lectin, a natural insecticide in snowdrop plants, had stunted growth Immune system damage, different in kidney size and blood composition. If we scrutiny the whole world we will see only the LDC and developing countries are the victim of GMO foods like Haiti, Cambodia, Thailand. In Thailand, Haiti farmers are protesting to ban GMO foods in their country. But it is not possible as they have already signed TIFA. Alternatively the developed nations like Japan, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, even in some states in USA impose ban on production on GMO foods. Now it is very clear that we will get nothing from TIFA but we have many things to lose. Bangladesh should increase its negotiation capacity and it should be more inclined more towards the multilateral trading systems and should sign bilateral agreement like TIFA only when it is ensured that the country would get more benefits. The contents of agreement must reveal to the public. Political harmony is also important here. We have to take lessons from the history of TIFA implementation in Sri Lanka, Liberia. Cambodia, Haiti, Mozambique. Otherwise the situation will be worse than that of 18th century when east India Company colonialized us and the fact is so called neo colonialism.
