Although Java is an important language for Android developers, it's one among many. Knowing additional languages is useful for Android developers, engineer Ernest Holloway explains in our latest Ask a Dev video.

For example, advanced animations and applications that depend on hardware features could benefit from the native approach. But for companies that want a single codebase to be distributed across multiple platforms, HTML5 or CCS3 may make more sense.
