Traffic congestions are less common in Helsinki than in other major European cities, suggests data accumulated by the Dutch car navigation manufacturer TomTom. Of the 31 European cities compared, Helsinki is the 23rd most congested, beating, for example, Stockholm (ranked 9th) and Oslo (ranked 15th). Journey times in Helsinki during rush hours are an average of 20 per cent longer than normally; during the peak-hour congestions, up to 50 per cent more time may be needed.
