It was been great concern to see some of our young and educated guys involve in sexual harassment through SMS. The words are so nasty that it can not be read and uttered. The victim can not tell that to her parents and can not share it but she remains in a very shocking situation. Is there any rule to protect it. We know that in our country this is a very silly matter comparing to violations those have been done with women every day. Our Police/ RAB has to deal lots of high voltage crime. But what about the telecom- operators? Don’t they have any obligations and social responsibility? One of my friend went to Robi Customer care at Purana Palton, Dhaka to complain about a specific number with the SMS with him. As we know SMS is something like mail and it is stored in the mobile operator’s database. So they can easily view it if any one send a written complain or challenge about the content of the SMS. Telecoms can also take a service charge to inquiry that matter. These types of SMS even contain a threat to one’s life. We will be continuously getting threat from a cell number of being killed but the telecoms will do nothing as they are there valuable customer. They can’t say anything to them as they will loose customer. So Telecoms are nourishing those culprits and they will not make a inquiry to block those number. The call blocking service is also a great business. Cause if they suggest you to block the culprit’s number then call blocking service will increase its subscribers. A group of culprits will be threatening your life or will send extremely dirty SMS to you and you will be advised to block them but the main criminal who do this will be using the number easily as it will boost up the telecoms business and those criminals are very important to them as they get good revenue from them. When my friend reported it to the Manager of the Robi Customer Care, he replied they don’t have anything to do as there is no rule and they are a private company, they will consider their business. Though the call from that number is threatening your life or humiliating you at a extreme extent but they are getting pennies. Administration also cannot take any action based on proof as there exist no rule. How many days we will wait for the rules?
