FOOD HABITS OF BANGLADESH

net worker One of the most important thing of understanding the Bangali culture is to identify its foods and food habits. A nation can be predicted even better if the food habits are understood and the foods as well. Bangalis, in general, tend to eat 4-5 times a day, some drinks and desserts are excluded in the list. Bangalis are called “Machey Bhaat e Bangali”, meaning Bangali in rice and fish. This concept holds that Bangalis are primarily dependent on Rice and Fish, however, significant changes are seen in their current lives. Bangalis start off their day with breakfasts. Primarily, they rely on “Ruti”, a form of bread. They tend to eat either vegetables or egg with it. However, in the rural areas, it is seen that most of them start their days with rice(preferably panta-bhaat, rice soaked in water). For supper, there is no better thing than rice. The main item they prefer is vegetables and also, either fish or meat. There are lots of fish items available around the country so there are lots of alternatives to pick from. However, the only types of meat most popular in the country are chicken and beef. Bangalis also eat “Daal”(paes) in their supper. Another time of eating for the Bangalis will be at the afternoon, when they rely on light food just to keep their stomachs full. Most of these foods include Peanuts, Chatpati, Fuchka, Noodle, Biscuits etc. The main point is to enjoy the time with friends or families while having something to fill up the tummy. At the dinners, the same food is eaten as in the supper. Sometimes the items of the supper may vary, but it pretty much stays constant.
