We’ve forever heard about the importance of drinking water for our health. But what benefits, exactly, do we reap from consuming this important elixir? We’ve got eight reasons that will make you a fan of this clear liquid!
It boosts your brain function. Want to stay smart? As stated above, water is needed to dispense nutrients throughout the body… including to the brain. Plus, the brain is composed of water and draws energy from it, as well. Finally, water is also essential to the production and function of brain cells, so a dehydrated brain is a weakened brain. Just a little food for thought.
It prevents the cold and flu. A healthy immune system starts with eight eight-ounce glasses of water (and fluids) per day. Water washes away impurities from your system and, along with a proper diet, rest, and exercise, can keep the cold and flu away during the colder seasons.
It keeps your skin clear. By drinking lots of water, you hydrate yourself both inside and out! Water clears toxins from our bodies, flushing out impurities that can cause acne, leaving your skin looking and feeling beautiful.
It prevents you from overeating. Water is a great weight-loss tool if you’re looking to slim down: it boasts zero calories and it is filling! By drinking the recommended number of glasses per day, it may help avoid snacking on fatty foods between meals.
It improves digestion. A proper digestive system requires hydration. The fluid helps nutrients flow through the intestines, and thus dispensing them throughout the body.
It keeps headaches at bay. Feel a migraine or headache coming on? These can actually occur when our bodies aren’t sufficiently hydrated. Remedy this by replenishing your body with water or sports drinks.
It perks you up. Need an energy boost? Dehydration slows the blood flow to our organs, slows the activity of enzymes (which are key to producing energy), and makes it hard to extract energy from the foods we’ve eaten. All this leads to fatigue, so try reaching for a bottle of water instead of that third cup of coffee.
It keeps you aroused. We’re all about being healthy across the board… including when it comes to our sex life! Vaginal lubrication is key to a good time, but if you suffer from a decrease of it, note that it can simply be due to dehydration. Try drinking a bit more water to ease the dryness before hitting the lube or visiting your gynecologist.
