Dubbing the proposed ‘National Education Policy 2009’ as secular, violate of the country’s constitution and contrary to public opinion, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Moulana Matiur Rahman Nijami demanded cancellation of the education policy in the interest of the country.
The Jamaat chief called upon the government to form a new committee with eminent and accredited educationists to formulate a new education policy alleging that the proposed education policy had been formulated by the controversial persons.
He was speaking at a press conference at the party’s office in the city to ventilate the opinion of the party on the proposed education policy.
He also urged the government to extend two months time to educationists and civil societies to examine and suggest changes in the proposed national education policy.
Crticising the present government, he said that it wanted to implement the proposed education policy to adopt secularism in the light of Dr Kudrat-e-Khuda Education Policy which had been rejected by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1974.
He blamed the government as having formulating the education policy without consulting the eminent educationists and the representative bodes of the arena.
If the proposed education policy is implemented, Madrasa education would gradually be abolished, alleged the Ameer and called upon the workers and supporters of his party to create awareness about the bad impact of the education policy among the people.
“It would lead the next generation to wrong path, so the people of the country have to be united on the issue to resist the efforts of implementing the controversial education policy.” he said.
The press conference was attended, among others, by nayebe ameer of the party Mokbul Ahmed, its secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Muzahid, assistant general secretaries Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, Abdul Kader Mollah, ATM Ajharul Islam and Prof Mujibur Rahman, publicity secretary Prof Tasnim Alam and Dhaka City Ameer Maulana Rafiqul Islam.
Replying to questions of the journalists, Moulana Nijami said that the government had expressed its political topic by formulating the education policy. If the government calls Jamaat-e-Islami to express its opinion on the issue, the party will respond to the call, he said.
Criticising the chief of the education policy formulation committee Prof Kabir Chowdhury, he told journalists that Kabir Chowdhury was not a real educationist, he was a cultural personality and a controversial person.
