Microsoft unveiled on Monday at its event in New York City the Surface 2 tablet, which is heralded as a total revamp of its predecessor.
The device features a full 1080p display, 25% more battery life — so it can be used more than 12 hours a day — and is lighter and thinner than before.
Microsoft also introduced a docking station for its Surface Pro 2 and Surface 2 tablets.This is the first docking accessory for the line and resembles a working station.

The event is the first of this caliber we've seen from Microsoft — usually, big-stage unveilings have been exclusive to Apple, Google, Samsung and a few select others. This is a part of a greater attempt from the company to bring more buzz and relevancy back into the brand.
The Surface Pro tablet also made its debut at the event. The device, which Microsoft is calling "the most productive, most professional tablet in the world," features an increased graphics performance by 50%, a 75% stronger battery and it's very fast: it includes Intel's Haswell processor.
"The point of this product is to work fast," a Microsoft executive told attendees. "The need of this product is to work all the time."
The company said it is faster than 95% of all ultrabooks on the market. But on the exterior, it looks nearly identical to the first-generation Surface Pro.
"See the subtle difference? Sometimes subtlety can be the most impactful difference," the executive said.
