'Hope You're Having a Scary Day, Everyone. This Is R.L. Stine.'

Scholastic's social media accounts looked a little spooky today.
R.L. Stine, the "Stephen King of children's literature" and the author of the iconic Goosebumps series, took over the publishing company's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+ pages on Wednesday to answer fans' questions and put them in the Halloween spirit a day before the holiday.

Stine took ahold of Scholastic's social media on Halloween in 2011. The team planned to revive the tradition last year, but canceled in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Instead, Stine used his personal Twitter account to tell us a scary story in only 13 tweets as a Halloween treat.
During this year's social media takeover, Stine opened up about his books and his family — and even a fuzzy duck costume from his childhood.

Hope you're having a scary day, everyone. This is R.L. Stine. I'm taking over Scholastic for the next hour. Any questions?

Social media users asked Stine questions on Twitter about his career beginnings and how he came to write such creepy books.
@0m_Adam Why do I write scary books for kids? I just enjoy scaring kids.
— Scholastic (@Scholastic) October 30, 2013
@0m_Adam I started writing when I was 9. I don't know why. I was a weird kid.

On Facebook, he discussed the writing process and what it takes to pen scary tales.

Other questions delved a little more personal. We learned about Stine's children, his favorite foods and even his childhood Halloween costumes.
@Bookwink I have a son, Matt. His claim to fame is that he NEVER read one of my books! Isn't that horrible?

@metalhandsmerv We are very close to doing a Goosebumps movie. It will feature many characters from the books.

@Read_Draw_Dream No new stand-alone YA novels. I'm working on new Fear Streets.

Next Halloween, watch for a new Goosebumps book— Zombie Halloween. Guess what it's about...
