iPad Air Not Involved in Apple iPad Explosion, Vodafone Says

Recent reports said an iPad Air allegedly exploded in a Vodafone store in Canberra, Australia, leading to plenty of speculation about what caused the incident. However, sources told Mashable that the iPad in question was not an iPad Air, but rather an older model.
“It was an earlier generation iPad with Retina display model — not one of the more recently launched devices. Apple is investigating the cause,” a Vodafone Australia spokesperson told Mashable.

This new information conflicts with a widely circulated report that said the exploding device was an iPad Air.
Mashable was unable to contact the Vodafone store in Canberra, so we reached out to the city's official Apple store; however, the representative on site declined to comment on the iPad explosion.
Another Vodafone Australia representative offered similar insight into the incident as the first. “Can confirm it was not an Air; all I know it was a Retina model, so a 3 or 4,” the spokesperson said. “Apple has taken the device for investigation, so we won't know any more until they do. ” As for the potential fallout from these iPad Air reports, based on the aforementioned comments from our sources, those interested in purchasing Apple's latest tablet should not be concerned.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
