Guillermo del Toro's Vampire Virus Tale 'The Strain' Will Spread to TV

In The Strain, a vampire virus will sweep through New York City, and the head of the city's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention office must stop the outbreak.
The upcoming TV show, which cable channel FX has just ordered 13 episodes of, comes from the bestselling trilogy of novels written by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, both of whom will executive produce this small screen version along with Carlton Cuse of Lost. The Strain will premiere in July 2014.

Corey Stoll of House of Cards will star as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the infection-fighting head of the NYC government agency. Del Toro — who has directed such movies as Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy and Pacific Rim — will take the directorial reigns for the TV series as well.
The Strain will be the latest in FX's stable of original shows that includes Sons of Anarchy, The Americans, The Bridge, Justified and American Horror Story. It will also be the next in a line of vampire-genre shows that have sprung up all over television, from HBO's True Blood to the CW's The Vampire Diaries.
Though the first segment has yet to air, FX CEO John Landgraf has mentioned the show might run between 39-65 episodes.
