At the stroke of midnight, Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher's Wall Street Journal-owned tech news site AllThingsD died and the two announced a new venture to take its place: Re/code.
A message on the WordPress-created site states that it is set for a launch at 12 AM EST on Jan. 2. Meanwhile, if you try to log on to allthingsd.com, you will be directed to WSJ.D, a new tech news site from The Wall Street Journal.

WSJ.com/tech will be the home of WSJD's daily updates on "a wide range of topics, from global public tech companies and pre-IPO startups to personal technology reviews and everything in between," according to a press release from the company.
Mossberg, 66, has been a reporter and editor at the Journal since 1970. His Personal Technology column has appeared in that newspaper every Thursday since 1991. Swisher, 51, (pictured) is joined the paper in 1997, covering Silicon Valley from the Journal's San Francisco bureau, eventually penning the Boomtown section about the region.
In September, the WSJ announced it would not renew its contract with Mossberg and Swisher. The duo decided to strike out on their own with the new venture. Here's how they announced the move on Twitter and Instagram:
Our new site is http://t.co/oitnfeO7BO. It features the entire staff that brought you @allthingsd. Brand is Re/code. Twitter is @Recode.
