U.S. tech giants dominated headlines in 2013, according to the Global Dow Index, with Google and Apple topping the list of most mentioned companies in print media during the past year. Microsoft and IBM also made the top 10.
The data, which Dow Jones compiled after tracking media coverage of 150 influential public companies from Jan. 1 to Dec. 1, is based on global, English-language print publications.

The tech industry's popular coverage doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering 2013's big stories: Google Glass' debut, Microsoft's introduction of Windows 8.1 and the Xbox One, and IBM's development of a cognitive computer system, among many others.
