Target Taps Top Pinterest Influencers for Design Collaboration

A few of Pinterest's most popular users have hit the bull's-eye.
Target on Monday announced new design partnerships with some of Pinterest's top pinners, who will soon design exclusive party-planning collections for the retailer.

The pinners, who are all top design bloggers as well as Pinterest influencers, will create collections that will then sell online and in Target's retail stores. "We're excited to see the launch of Target's new design collaboration," a Pinterest spokesperson wrote in a statement sent to Mashable. "Pinterest is a place where anyone can share the things they love and inspire others to go out and do things. Target's latest line designed by everyday pinners is proof of that."
The new partnership debuts on March 16, when top pinner Joy Cho's party collection will be available. (Images of some of the items, including cups, streamers, and table cloths, are already online.) Cho runs her own blog, Oh Joy, and has more than 13.6 million Pinterest followers. For comparison, Target has less than 150,000 followers.
Target has been actively working with Pinterest for some time now. The retailer surfaced top pins on its website in November when a user searched for an item that was no longer available. Target also uses small labels to identify popular items from Pinterest inside its retail stores.
Monday's partnership would appear to be a win for Target, which will soon have some of the site's most influential users not only designing its products, but sharing them online to millions of followers. Party planning is a popular area for Pinterest; more than 700,000 party planning pins are shared every day on the platform.
Other top pinners Jan Halvarson of Poppytalk (8.3 million followers) and Kate Arends of Wit & Delight (2.6 million followers) are set to unveil their own party planning collections in June and September. It's unclear what type of compensation these designers will receive, or how they were selected to participate. Target did not immediately respond to Mashable's request for comment.
