'Lego Movie' Sequel Set for 2017

Warner Bros. said it plans to bring a Lego sequel to theaters on May 26, 2017. The studio will bring back screenwriters Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan for the sequel, according to Variety. But it's uncertain whether the original cast — including actors Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell and Morgan Freeman — will return for the sequel, especially since there is a three-year period between films.
The Lego Movie grossed $69.1 million in U.S. box offices on its first weekend, making it the highest-grossing animated film to debut in February. It ranks 10th on all-time weekend openings for animated films, according to Box Office Mojo, a database for movie-ticket sales. Shrek the Third, which took in $121 million during its first weekend in theaters in May 2007, holds the highest weekend opening for any animated film.
