Danish Company Offers Prizes to Residents Who Go on Vacation and Have Sex

Do it for your country. Do it for the potential sweepstakes prizes. But for crying out loud, Danish folks, just do it.

Travel company Spies Rejser has made Denmark’s declining birth rate the centerpiece of a cheeky new campaign urging residents to hit the road –- romantic Paris, perhaps? –- and get busy.

Denmark is in the midst of a baby bust, with the birth rate having fallen to a 27-year low, says the ad, citing government statistics. Bringing some of its own data into the campaign, Spies claims that 10% of Danish children are conceived on vacation and that Danes have 46% more sex while on holiday. Who can argue?

A contest that accompanies the ad will give away a three-year supply of “baby stuff” if Danish residents book their trip through Spies and can prove they got pregnant during their travel. Winners also get a family-friendly vacation so they can tote the bundle of joy along with them next season.

It’s not the first time that out-of-town getaways have been used as aphrodisiacs in advertising. Hotels, cruises and tour companies based in the U.S. latched onto the idea of “procreation vacations” years ago. No stats on how many babies resulted.
