There are different conflicting figures of present power demand. Some source mention 5200MW, some 4500MW and some even 6000MW+ . First there must be authentication of actual maximum power demand and actual effective generation capacity. At this time of crisis no planning will be effective if PDB hide actual demand. If we know actual situation we can figure out actual deficit. If these are 5200 MW maximum daily demand and 4000MW is our actual effective generation capacity, then the actual deficit is 1200MW. But the recent massive load shedding of every alternate hour in major cities during intensive irrigation period does not justify only 1200MW deficit. Moreover power system only peaks from 5PM till 12PM. The actual demand has to be higher. There were reports that irrigation load alone was 1000MW. Then when power for irrigation will not be required there should not be any significant deficit if all under operation power generation plant function consistently. Possibly actual power demand is higher.It may be 7000+. If it is not possible to improve this embarrassing situation, newly appointed government who are passing honeymoon period they will be must be punished by the people. Because it is a major issue for the failure of the BNP government. So as early as possible to take the proper action in this winter session. Otherwise next summer they will not to tackle this hues load. We are looking forward from the government. Present Condition of Fuel Natural Gas is the major fuel for power generation. Coal, Liquid fuel (Diesel, furnace oil), Hydro contribute some % in power mix. Present Fuel Mix: Natural Gas 3030 MW (85.71%), Liquid Fuel 240 MW (6.96%), Hydro 67 MW (1.92%),Coal192 MW (5.41%). It is clear that Natural Gas is only one substance which is play prime role in power generation sector. Most of all power plant in our country based on Natural Gas. Recently establish some IPP based on Natural Gas like Shajibazar Power Co. Ltd. (86MW), United Summit Power (64 MW), Energyprima, Dorren Power etc. Most probably United Summit Power which is situated in DEPZ, it is suffering Gas problem from the long time. Recently it is peak up with some technical problem. But when it is established, both of them (Government & United Summit Power) committed to each other no interruption between Gas & Power Generation. It is fact that no commitment between each other. This condition will be happen all of the IPP , this days are not so far. After the establishment no way to shift from Gas to other fuel mix or it is not feasible. After five or six years, what will be done our Government? Answer is Nothing to do.
