Speakers at a discussion yesterday said that the conspiracies are going on from different quarters of home and aboard to destroy the sovereignty of the country and the construction of Tipaimukh dam and decision to permit transit to India in the name of Asian Highway are the part of the conspiracies. They also said that the conspiracy also going on to alienate Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT) from Bangladesh aiming to establish a Christian state ‘Jummaland’ like East Timur of Indonesia. The discussion on ‘Resist Aggression and Save the Country’ organised by Forum for the Silent Majority held at the National Press Club in the city. Former Chief Justice Mahmudul Amin Chowdhury attended the programme as chief guest with President of the Forum Md Foyzur Rahman Chowdhury in the chair. Justice Mahmudul Amin said that the construction of Tipaimukh dam is an aggression of neighboring country to destroy the country’s existence. If the dam is constructed on Borak River near by the Zakigonj border in Sylhet, the river of Surma, Kushiara and Meghna will go dry and vast areas of the country will be turned to a desert area. He called upon the people to be united against the aggression of neighboring countries forgetting all little differences. The programme was moderated by General Secretary of the organisation Abdullah Wazed while former secretary Mohammad Asafud Doulah, vice chancellor of Manarat International University Prof Dr Abdur Rab, water expert engineer Dr SI Khan, former director general of BDR Maj Gen (Retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman, language veteran Abdul Gafur, former lawmaker of CHT constituency Abdul Wadud Bhuyian, journalist Mehedi Hasan Palash, among others took part at the discussion. Asafud Doulah said that the country is facing cultural aggression of other countries that should be strictly stopped in sake of saving our very own culture. Dr Abdur Rab said that the natural flood is needed for the country to keep a balance in the nature and environment. But the construction of Tipaimukh dam will prevent it, he added. Dr SI Khan said that any how the construction of the dam has to resist for saving the northern and eastern region of the country from desertification. The speakers said that CHT area is the integral part of Bangladesh and it covers the one-tenth part of our map. The plot to establish a separate state in the area to alienate it from the country has to prevent with unity. Some of speakers criticised the recommendation of Chittagong Hill Tract International Commission’s chief Lord Eric who recently recommended to rehabilitate the Bengali settlers from CHT area. They demanded immediate withdrawal of Lord Eric from the country for his anti-country recommendation.
