Addressing her raunchy MTV Video Music Awards performance for the first time, Miley Cyrus said she knew she and Robin Thicke would "make history" with their "Blurred Lines" duet in which Cyrus groped Thicke with a large foam finger and twerked near his nether regions.
They certainly did go down in the history books — the ex-Disney star won the title of most-mentioned VMAs guest on Twitter with 4.5 million mentions during the initial broadcast. Buzz around the jaw-dropping performance (watch below) lasted well into the Labor Day weekend.

"Madonna's done it. Britney's done it. Every VMA performance ... you're wanting to make history," Cyrus said in the video, above, that came out Tuesday. "Me and Robin the whole time said, 'you know we're about to make history right now.'"
Cyrus now claims two of iTunes' top 10 singles with her new song "Wrecking Ball" and major hit "We Can't Stop." "Blurred Lines," the track Cyrus helped Robin Thicke perform at the VMAs, is sandwiched between them on the charts.
"I don't pay attention to the negative because I've seen this seen played out ... how many times have we seen this play out in pop music?” Cyrus asked. "People are still talking about it. They're over thinking it. You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn't even think about it 'cause that's just me."
On VMAs night, the stars attracted 10.1 million viewers — a 66% increase compared to 2012's viewership, MTV reports. The initial broadcast sparked 120 trending topics on Twitter and 1.2 million Instagram likes.
