The proactive Miley Cyrus parodied her viral song "We Can't Stop" and mocked the U.S. government shutdown on Saturday Night Live. In the pre-taped music video titled "We Did Stop (The Government)," the 20-year-old pop star played congresswoman Michele Bachmann as funny man Taran Killam assumed the role of House Speaker John Boehner.
"It’s our party, we can stop what we want, we can vote how we want, defund what we want," Cyrus sings. "Red states and sweaty bodies everywhere, bill’s in the house like we don’t care, 'cause we came to shut it all down now, no government around now. If you’re not ready for health care, can I get a “hell no!” 'Cause we’re gonna keep it out shut down, D.C.is a closed town all around."

Cyrus hosted the SNL, which included her performances of power ballad "Wrecking Ball" and an acoustic version of "We Can't Stop."
Like clockwork, live viewers dished their instant reactions to the parody video, which threw jabs at the Republican party and the government's antics since the shutdown began:
Gotta admit: Miley Cyrus as a slutty Michelle Bachmann in the SNL parody video of "We Can't Stop" about the gov't shutdown is pretty funny.

Did anyone else see the "we did stop" parody video of the govt shutdown on SNL? Literally epic. It ruled so hard

I don't know if I can say "We Did Stop" is a better song than "D!ck in a Box," but, the video was AWESOME #SNL

Between the "We did stop (the government)" video and last week's Arcade Fire special, is #SNL punk again?

During SNL's "Weekend Update" skit, Seth Meyers also poked fun at the shutdown:
"Congress this week failed to agree on a budget deal, which led to a government shutdown, the first since 1995. So basically, the government shuts down every time Arsenio gets a TV show."
"Because of the government shutdown, the US Air Force Academy in Colorado is facing a toilet paper shortage. Giving new meaning to the phrase ‘you’ve got a bogie on your tail."
Cyrus' original "We Can't Stop" video (watch below) in June shattered Vevo's record for most views (10.7 million) in an initial 24-hour time span, but but boy band One Direction stole that record with "Best Song Ever" (12.3 million views). Cyrus, however, reclaimed the record for "Wrecking Ball," garnering 19.3 million views.
Also this week, Cyrus is letting people stream her album, Bangerz, for free on iTunes ahead of its Oct. 8 release. She has sold 12 million albums and 20 million tracks in the U.S.
Cyrus' MTV documentary Miley: The Movement also aired Wednesday. The broadcast followed Cyrus as she premiered "We Can't Stop," worked with Spears on a duet and unleashed her viral antics at the MTV Video Music Awards.
