Zuckerberg: Moving Fast 'Gets Us Into Tons of Trouble'

One of Facebook’s core values, Move Fast, isn’t always successful for the company.
“It gets us into tons of trouble,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during an interview at TechCrunch Disrupt, a technology conference held in San Francisco, on Wednesday.

“Sometimes we go fast and we mess up a bunch of stuff, and we have to go back and fix it,” he adds.
The sentiment, however, encourages employees to try out new things and see what works with the Facebook audience, a trait that Zuckerberg says is important for innovation. “I want to empower people at the company to try things out,” he says.

Features that work well for Facebook, such as the Chat Heads in Facebook Home, move fast within the social network. Chat Heads initially launched in Facebook Home but, along with Cover Feed, has been pushed out to Facebook’s iOS and Android apps, too.
Zuckerberg says he selected Move Fast as one of the company’s values specifically because it can spark disagreement.
“I’m of the opinion that values are only useful when they’re controversial,” he says. “Move Fast is good because it’s something that people can actually disagree with.”

“Move Fast. Break Things” is written on several motivation posters featured around Facebook’s campus. Other posters display phrases such as "Fail Harder," "Done Is Better Than Perfect" and "People Over Pixels!"
