Pop star Katy Perry became the most popular person on Twitter on Sunday, with well over 46.4 million followers at the time of this writing. She passed Justin Bieber, who didn't quite make it to a year with the title, and appears to be putting some distance between herself and second place.

Perry's number of followers also surged past Lady Gaga, the former number one, earlier this year. The success of Perry's most recent single, "Roar," from her album Prism, released last month, may have contributed to putting her at the top of Twitter's elite.
Gaga is currently holding onto third place on Twitter. Although, with roughly 40 million followers, she hasn't fallen far behind the top two. President Barack Obama is also lurking just behind her, with one million fewer fans.
