Outcast, a horror comic written by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, is heading to Cinemax.
The story centers around a demonically possessed character named Kyle Barnes who has dealt with dark spirits since childhood. All grown up now, he embarks on a quest to get answers about what these demons are, and in the process, discovers a secret that could alter life on Earth.

Although the comic won't debut until next year, and Cinemax has only signed on for a pilot episode, there's major hype surrounding the project due to the success of Kirkman's first foray into the horror genre. The Walking Dead is cable's most successful drama among viewers, with 16 million people having watched its fourth-season premiere, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show has already been renewed for a fifth season.
With Outcast, this is the first time Kirkman will write a TV pilot, according to Rolling Stone. He will serve as executive producer alongside David Alpert, also of The Walking Dead, while also heading two other projects. Kirkman is an executive producer of Spread the Dead, a Walking Dead spinoff, and the creator of Thief of Thieves, a comic-book series.
