Groupon is attempting to give consumers another reason to check the company's site: A new category called "Freebies" that includes deals from Best Buy, Macy's, American Eagle, Nordstrom and more.
Despite the name, the feature, which will eventually turn up in Groupon's app, isn't just for free offers. It also includes a deal on 20% off select appliances at Best Buy, 40% off office supplies at Walmart and a buy-two-get-one-free deal on Jockey underwear at Macy's. In all there are more than 5,000 retailers participating in 25,000 deals.

Groupon's name comes from the company's central promise of coupons activated by a certain number of signups. Offering traditional coupons with no such restrictions is "new territory for us," says Rich Williams, SVP of global marketing. "We know there's an appetite for this with customers," he says.
The offer comes as Groupon continues to expand its business beyond its core daily deal offerings. In July, the company began offering upscale restaurant reservations and the company is also dabbling in mobile payments and launched Groupon Marketplace, which offers deals that consumers can search rather than wait for them to hit their inbox.
