Retired Formula One driver Michael Schumacher is in critical condition following a skiing accident in France on Sunday.
The seven-time Formula One world champion fell while skiing on vacation at a luxury French resort in Meribel and hit his head on a rock. He suffered severe brain trauma and is still in a medically induced coma.

“We cannot predict the future for Michael Schumacher. We are working hour by hour,” chief anesthesiologist Jean-Francois Payen told reporters at a news conference on Sunday at the Grenoble University Hospital Center, where Schumacher is being treated.

Schumacher was wearing a helmet, which could be the reason why he's still alive. “Someone who had suffered this accident without a helmet would not have made it this far,” Payen said.
His former Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa and many Formula One teams, including Red Bull and Sauber, wished him a speedy recovery on Twitter.

In addition to winning seven Formula One championships, Schumacher has 91 race victories, more than any man in history of the sport, making him the winningest driver. He's also had his share of previous injuries; he crashed at the Silverstone race course in 1999, breaking his leg, and suffered neck and spine injuries after a motorcycling accident in February 2009 in Spain. He retired from racing in 2012.
