রাষ্ট্রপতি মো. জিল্লুর রহমানের মৃত্যুতে সরকার ঘোষিত সাধারণ ছুটি কার্যকর করেনি অনেক প্রতিষ্ঠান। এর মধ্যে বেসরকারি ব্র্যাক ব্যাংক, মার্কেন্টাইল ব্যাংক, আলিফ গ্রুপ, আবদুল মোমেন লিমিটেড, এসিআই, এমএফ-আইজিডব্লিউ নামের একটি প্রতিষ্ঠান, স্কয়ার গ্রুপ, বেক্সিমকো টেক্সটাইল, এসিএস টেক্সটাইল, কমটেক্সটাইল, ইনফরমেশন সার্ভিস নেটওয়ার্কসহ শতাধিক প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকে থেকে তাদের কর্মীরা বাংলানিউজকে ই-মেইল করে জানিয়েছেন তাদের প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলো সরকারের নির্দেশ মেনে ছুটি ঘোষণা করেনি। ব্র্যাক ব্যাংকের চট্টগ্রামের একটি শাখায় কর্মরত একজন কর্মকর্তা বাংলানিউজকে প্রাথমিকভাবে তথ্যটি জানান। ওই ব্যক্তি ব্যাংক কর্তৃপক্ষের এই আচরণে ক্ষুব্ধ। ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করে তিনি বলেন, রাষ্ট্র যখন তার অভিভাবককে হারিয়ে শোকগ্রস্ত, সরকার যখন এই শোকের সঙ্গে সাধারণের একাত্মতা প্রকাশের সুযোগ দিতে ছুটি ঘোষণা করেছে তখন ব্র্যাক ব্যাংক তার শাখা খোলা রেখে অবমাননা দেখাচ্ছে।

তবে এ বিষয়ে ব্র্যাকের একজন দায়িত্বশীল কর্মকর্তা বাংলানিউজকে বলেন, তারা সরকারের এই সিদ্ধান্ত কার্যকর করতে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের নির্দেশনার অপেক্ষায় ছিলেন। পরে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের নির্দেশনা পেয়ে দুপুর ২টা থেকে ব্যাংকটি বন্ধ করা হয়। বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক ওই সার্কুলারে জানায়, সকল ব্যাংক দুপুর ২ টা থেকে বন্ধ থাকবে। এদিকে একই ধরনের অভিযোগ আসে মার্কেন্টাইল ব্যাংক থেকেও। এই ব্যাংকটির একজন নারী কর্মকর্তা ব্যাংকটি খোলা রাখায় ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করেন।
