Management/ 01: Who perform better: elderly or young?

Lot of us believes that performance in work declines as people grow older. Actually, research shows that age is not related with performance in job. Elderly people are relatively more experienced and are likely to make fewer mistakes. They possess better judgment than younger employees, and are less likely to make avoidable absenteeism. But, elderly people are also less flexible, less adaptable to changes of any kind and make more absenteeism on unavoidable ground than that of younger employees. It is believed that individual skills like speed, agility, strength, coordination deteriorate as age increases. Consequently, intellectual stimulation declines and job boredom increases. Taking two sides in consideration, it may be noted that generally, job performance is not affected by age. For example, younger employees make more mistakes as they are inexperienced but cover it up using their speed, imagination, strength etc. On the other hand, elderly people make fewer mistakes but they lack skills of younger people.
