Abnormal hike of fees at Jessore Science and Technology University (JSTU) sparked protest among the students on Tuesday. About one thousand Students of 12 faculties of the university started boycotting classes and examinations since the morning at about 9 am. They gave ultimatum to the university authority to withdraw the extra fees by 2 pm. Ratul Das a student of the university said, if the authority does not meet their demand of cancellation extra charges, they will shut the administrative building. The students submitted a memorandum to proctor Nur Alam of Chemical Engineering Department and Student Advisor Mosharof Hossain at about 12 pm with two point demands- cut the masters admission fees to Tk 4000 from newly imposed Tk 18000 and reduce the semester fess to Tk 3000 against TK 4500. They held a protest rally there, where Ratul Das, Subrata Biswas, Bappa Banarjee, Shafinuddin spoke. Students said, Monday the university authority introduced Tk 18000 for its first masters admission fees that sparked protest among the students. Students are demonstrating in front of administrative building of the university till filing of this report at evening.
