Two Netflix originals are among the 2014 Writers Guild Awards nominees.
Orange Is the New Black, Netflix's most-watched original show, is nominated for best new series as well as best comedy series. Two of its episodes, including the show's pilot, are nominated for best comedy episode. Meanwhile, House of Cards is up for best new series as well as best drama series, with one specific episode picking up its own nomination as well.

The annual Writers Guild Awards celebrate the year's best writing in TV and radio. That two Netflix originals are among this year's nominees is notable for a number of reasons.
First, it signals a mainstream acceptance of programming that audiences can't consume in traditional ways. Second, it proves that companies such as Netflix can produce original content that pleases both critics and audiences. Third, it points to what we'll likely see as a growing trend of of on-demand original programming that never gets broadcast on TV.
Orange Is the New Black, which follows the lives of women in federal prison, debuted in July to rave reviews. Season one was not eligible for the Emmys Awards in 2013, but it will be in 2014. Political thriller House of Cards, which returns for a second season on March 14, made history at the Emmys in September by becoming the first web-only series to win an award during a Primetime Emmys. The series stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.
Other Writers Guild nominees include Showtime's Masters of Sex, NBC's Parks and Recreation and ABC's Modern Family. You can check out the full list of nominees on the here.
