The "Dumb Starbucks" mystery that has been brewing since this past weekend has finally been solved.
The Internet was abuzz over the last 24 hours after a "Dumb Starbucks" surfaced in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. The shop was serving drinks like "Dumb Espressos" and "Dumb Frappuccinos," and people lined up outside the store in order to order these dumb concoctions. No one knew what a Dumb Starbucks was, but it was certainly popular.

As it turns out, Dumb Starbucks is part of the set for TV show Nathan For You on Comedy Central, according to LA Weekly. Nathan Fielder, the show's creator, director and star, claimed responsibility for the coffee house on Monday.

"By adding the word 'dumb,' we are legally allowed to use the coveted Starbucks name and logo, because we've fulfilled the minimum requirements to be considered a parody under U.S. law," Fielder said in a YouTube video tweeted out from a Dumb Starbucks Twitter account (and retweeted by Fielder). "Many of you know me as a comedian, but this is no bit or joke. This is a real business I plan to get rich from."
Given Fielder's background, it's hard to say whether the video is another one of his jokes, though it's unlikely he would be able to use the Starbucks branding if it is a genuine venture.
In an earlier statement, a Starbucks spokesperson said, "We are aware of the store — it is not affiliated with Starbucks. We are evaluating next steps and while we appreciate the humor, they cannot use our name, which is a protected trademark."
Some originally speculated that the coffee shop was an art installation, even suspecting political activist and graffiti artist Banksy as the possible mastermind behind the faux Starbucks.
At the end of the day, it wasn't a rogue activist fighting back against Starbucks — it was Hollywood.
