ইংরেজী ভাষার অনেক সহজ প্রকাশভংগীই চর্চার অভাবে আমরা ভুলে যাই। আমার “স্পোকেন ইংলিশ” সিরিজের লেখাগুলোর উদ্দেশ্য থাকবে সেই সহজ কিন্তু দৈনন্দিন ইংরেজী বাক্যবিনিময়ে ব্যবহারযোগ্য প্রকাশভংগী (expression) গুলোকে তুলে ধরা। বিশেষভাবে উপকৃত হবেন যারা IELTS বা TOEFL এর মত প্রতিযোগীতামূলক ইংরেজী পরীক্ষার প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছেন।

বিষয়বস্তু bbc সহ অন্যান্য স্বনামধন্য প্রতিষ্ঠানের Spoken English Program থেকে সংগ্রহকৃত। কথা বলতে যেয়ে অনেকসময়ই আমরা অনেকের সাথে ভিন্নমত পোষণ করি। ইংরেজীতে ভিন্নমত পোষণ করার জন্য বিভিন্ন ধরনের প্রকাশভংগী আছে, যার কোনটি বিনীত আবার কোনটি কর্কশ; কোনটি সরাসরি আবার কোনটি পরোক্ষ। এই লেখায়, অমত পোষণ করার বিভিন্ন অভিব্যক্তিকেই একত্রিত করা হয়েছে। সরাসরি অমত ১।

No, I don’t উদাহরণঃ -Shouldn't you be apologising to those people? -No, I don't think we should be apologising. ২। I don’t agree with that উদাহরণঃ You see, I mean, I don't agree with that. I understand that's the argument against what we've done, but I don't agree with it. ৩। I disagree about this উদাহরণঃ I'm a great admirer of Kofi's, but we obviously disagree about this issue. ৪। I don’t accept উদাহরণঃ I don't accept that we failed in that responsibility. আংশিক অমত অনেক সময় এমন হয় যে আমরা কোন কথার কিছু অংশের সাথে একমত আর কিছু অংশের সাথে ভিন্নমত পোষণ করি। Although এবং While এর মাধ্যমে ইংরেজীতে এটা করা যায়।

৫। Although ... , ... উদাহরণঃ -He doesn't work hard enough and he's bad for the company! -Although it's true to say he doesn't work as much as he should, I think he's very clever and could help the company a lot. ৬। While ..., ... উদাহরণঃ -He doesn't work hard enough and he's bad for the company! -While it's true to say he doesn't work as much as he should, I think he's very clever and could help the company a lot. কথায় বাধা দেয়া তর্ক করতে যেয়ে আমরা অনেক সময়ই আরেকজনকে থামিয়ে দিতে বা বাধা দিতে চাই। এর জন্য বহুল ব্যবহৃত একটি phrase হচ্ছে Hang on. ৭। Hang on উদাহরণঃ -You elected your own government, we're now telling- -Well, hang on a minute John! The election was … এখানে Hang on বলতে বোঝানো হচ্ছে যে “Stop, I don't agree and there's something I want to say.” তবে অনেক ক্ষেত্রে Hang on শব্দটি wait এর synonym হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

জোরালো অমত ৮। Most certainly উদাহরণঃ I most certainly do not accept that he was not a threat. ৯। Really উদাহরণঃ What he said is really not true. অমার্জিত অমত এগুলো গার্লফ্রেন্ড এর সাথে ব্যবহার করার সময় বিশেষ সাবধান থাকবেন  উদাহরণঃ ১০। That’s nonsense! - You do not love me. - That’s nonsense! I love you more than I can say in my words! ১১। That’s rubbish! - Why did you stare at that girl? - That’s rubbish! I never stared at her! এই অভিব্যক্তি দুইটির আগে adjective ব্যবহার করে এগুলোকে আরো অমার্জিত করা যায়! যেমন – That’s complete nonsense! That’s absolute rubbish! ভাল থাকুন।
