Different political parties, social organisations, business bodies and eminent personalities of the country expressed deep shock at the death of veteran BNP leader and former finance minister M Saifur Rahman who died today at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital following a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
BNP general secretary Advocate Khandaker Delwar Hossain condoled the death of M Saifur Rahman.
Recalling his eventful life and contributions he said that he served for the country and the nation till the death. Mentioning that Saifur was the Bangladesh's longest serving finance minister and an irreparable loss happened for BNP and the country by the death.
He prayed salvation of his eternal soul and expressed deep sympathy to his braved family.
Expressing deep shock at the dearth of the BNP veteran leader, deputy leader in the parliament and acting president of Awami League Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury made a condolence message on behalf of the party.
She prayed salvation of departed soul of Saifur and conveyed deep sympathy to his mourning family.
Awami League leader and finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith expressed deep mourning over the death of the veteran opposition politician.
Recalling his critical role in improving the economy of the country, Muhith prayed salvation of his departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Mentioning the contributions of Saifur Rahman to strengthen economy and politics of the country, general secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid made a condolence message.
In the message he said that Saifur Rahman was a unique person in the politics and he played a vital role to establish the BNP. The nation has lost a great politician and a wise economist, he added.
President of Gonoforum Dr Kamal Hossain and its Acting General Secretary Engineer Abul Qasem, presidium member of Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP) Alhajjj Gulam Sarwar Khan and General Secretary M Gulam Mostafa Bhuyian, chairman of Bangladesh Kallyan Party Maj Gen (Retd) Syed Mohammad Ibrahim Birpratik in separate condolence messages expressed deep shock at the death of the former finance minister.
They said that Safur’s economic policy improved the economy of the country and brought prosperity of millions of Bangladeshis. Promoting free market he reformed the economics and developed the country, said in the statements.
President of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI), Acting president of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGMEA) Faruk Hasan on behalf of the Asossociation expressed shock and a huge vacuum in the national politics has created due to death of Saifur Rahman.
In separate statement, they said that Saifur worked for the country and democracy till the death and strengthened country’s economy.
