Words and Paths

“On the authority of Abu Huraira who said that the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) says……… A good word is a charitable act ……… And removing a harmful thing from the path is a charitable act.” (Recorded in al-Bukhari and Muslim)” There are many directions given by the primary Shariah resources-the Quran and Hadith, to fashion our social life. If we scientifically test the DNA of every principle of them, we can see it gives stress on social discipline more than just keeping within personal discipline. Indeed, when you are doing something that infringes the principles of Sharia, it’s only left between you and your creator. No one is going to meddle in it. But, if that action is making a problem in our social life, then it is not only a personal one, rather it becomes a major issue which Shariah always wants to prevent. Likewise, having a conversation or word with someone, regardless his status, we are purported to use decent words. The Quran also seeks the use of good words. “The (true) servants of the Merciful are those who walk humbly on the earth who, when the ignorant people behave insolently towards them, say, "Peace to you" (Quran 25:63).” If a believer of Allah and thinks only prayer is worship, it would be a gross mistake. Then you 100% failed to understand Shariah correctly. Shariah isn’t a religion, Islam isn’t a religion, more it’s guidance to direct humans’ life. If it’s a guidance of human life then the discussion would be different. If it’s only a religion then the discussion would be different one too. “Indeed this Qur’an guides to the path which is clearer and straighter than any other (Quran 17:09.)” Therefore, we need to set a mind that how we will be dealing with Shariah sources. We need to question whether it’s a book of religion or guidance of humans’ life. If we can answer this question rightly, practically, rationally or as it requires then we can come to a conclusion that what is the impact of Shariah sources in our life. The Quran is not just a religious book which can only be bound into a religion’s action e.g. prayer. Moreover, it is a guidance of human’s life. As much as understandable it’s there to guide humans. It’s the principle of everything. “............ We have revealed to you the book which clarifies every matter....... (Quran 19:89)” Having proved with Shariah sources it’s not just a religious book, I would like to emphasize on two aspects of our social life. Aspect 1: Let’s try to use good words whenever we talk to someone (known or unknown). As far as the Hadith is concerned, Muhammad used good Arabic language to everyone he came across. If Muhammad is a model then we can learn from him. Speaking in good language is good worship. How many of us try to use good words in our conversations? Questions may come whether we have to follow Muhammad (pbuh), the answer is given below. “If you do love Allah follow me: Allah will love you and forgive you your sins, for Allah is often forgiving, most-merciful (Quran 3: 31).” Aspect 2: Can we avoid dumping on the street? Can we dump in the designated places? It’s taught by Islamic culture but we have forgotten to follow this Hadith. We prefer to debate in Islamic cultural issues. In Britain some places are dirtier than other ones. If we investigate, we can see that those streets are dirty where the majority are foreigners or Muslims (except some). Most Muslim countries also have dirty streets. If we really think that the Shariah sources are guidance, we have to follow them to establish a welfare community. Speaking in a good way by using good words and keeping clean the streets are not a big deal. Together we can easily use good words in our conversations and we can keep our streets clean.
